We approach the lock.

As we approach the lock we use
the VFH radio to call the lock master on channel 14. He's the
boss. We are instructed to tie up to a barge to the right of the
lock and wait for HIS CALL.

As we are tying up the
lockmaster is busy bringing down barges from Kentucky Lake.

After a two hour wait we begin
the process of enter the Kentucky Lake Lock and Dan.

Before entering the lock we
keep an eye on the traffic light. Flashy red- Keep clear,
Amber-The lock is being made ready. Flashing green-enter lock with
caution..

We enter the lock looking for
either a floating bollard or a series of stationary bollards.

Fenders are place to keep the boat from scraping
along the sides of the lock. It's time to hold on to the line.

The long float up the lock, 57
feet, which will take about 25 minutes.

The gate closed behind us and
water begins to enter. Causing turbulent currents. "Hold That
Line" Allen Yells..

As the two of us hold on we
look at the boat behind us lose a fender and the four crew members
struggle to hold their boat to the wall.

We watch the water rise.

The Lockmaster gives one long deafen blast on the
whistle and then, not before, we can unleash our line and exit the
lock..

Here we are at Kentucky Lake, one
more body of water waiting for us to conquer it.
